National Dog Day comes around every August 26, but
It might be the tail thumping before you are fully awake. The hopeful face that appears whenever you walk toward the kitchen. The familiar click of paws following you from room to room, just in case something interesting is about to happen.
Dogs make themselves part of the rhythm of our lives. They are there for the walks, the quiet evenings, the difficult days and all the unremarkable moments we might otherwise forget.

Your dog probably does not need a new toy, a fancy outfit or an elaborate celebration. Most
That might mean a slow walk with plenty of time to sniff, a ride in the car, a swim, a game of fetch or simply sitting together without your attention divided between three other things.
Let your dog set the agenda for a little while. Jazzy and Roy would undoubtedly have their own opinions about how the day should be spent, especially if snacks are involved.
National Dog Day is also a good reminder to pause and really look at your dog.
While you are petting or brushing them, check their coat, skin, ears, paws and nails. Notice whether there are any new lumps, tender areas or changes you have not seen before. Think about whether vaccines, medications, dental care or a routine veterinary visit may be coming due.

One meaningful way to participate in National Dog Day is to help a dog who is not already lucky enough to be sleeping on your furniture.
You could share the profile of an adoptable dog, donate food or supplies to a rescue, volunteer, foster or support an organization working to prevent more animals from being born into difficult circumstances.
